Adobe lightroom wirh midi2lr

Hi, does anybody know if this midi plugin would work with midi2lr? I want to make aure before I purchase it.

Crazy I just made a similar post now about Adobe Premiere (I’m mainly a video editor) but the logic could go into Lightroom as well… I’ve been digging the internet for days now and not finding anything.

I ordered a StreamDeck Plus XL and plan to maybe give it all a try myself, and if I fail in two weeks, I return it, and take the cost hit on plugins.

It kind of blows my mind that LoupeDeck and Logitech have legit plugins for Adobe, but Elgato still doesn’t years later. They could make a killing if they advertised this to photo and video editors. I get they are doing fine in streaming and such, but editing opens tons of money.

Have you looked into SideshowFX for Lightroom? I was talking to the dev a few days ago and I swear he said he was able to make a plugin for Lightroom, and hopefully Premiere is possible next. Maybe dig into that and see if it’s out yet. Currently for Premiere he is using screen coordinates, which I don’t want because you change your screen a little and it breaks. I want a legit plugin, even if it’s a MIDI workaround.

Update. You might be in luck, link below… I just looked and the new released Lightroom profile setup by SideShowFX seems to run off his new plugin. Cost like 45 bucks, but probably worth it even if you don’t use the icons and junk just to get knobs working, and free updates for life. Some of the stuff looks complex to set up, but the dials plugin alone would be key… Let me know what else you find. This is news to me.

Hi, yes. I already own Sideshow fx, but there are things that it can’t do, besides of being too cumbersome to reprogram functions.

I’m more familiar with midi2lr which I’ve been using since early versions. That’s why I want to use this midi plugin as a bridge.

Ah gotcha. I really just need knob control, not all the keymaps and icons of SideShow. You and I are in the same boat then. My plan is to attempt to get MIDI working as a workaround, but since no one has done it yet, I fear wasting my time.

I have the same question, specifically for the current paid MIDI plugin and Stream Deck + dials.

Has anyone successfully used the current MIDI plugin with the Stream Deck + dials and MIDI2LR?

My goal is to control Lightroom Classic Develop parameters such as Exposure, Temperature, Highlights, and Shadows with the Stream Deck + rotary dials.

The important requirement is relative encoder behavior:

  • Clockwise rotation should increment the current Lightroom value.
  • Counterclockwise rotation should decrement it.
  • The dial should not maintain or send an absolute 0–127 position, because that could cause values to jump when switching between photos.

Does the Generic MIDI Dial support a relative CC mode suitable for MIDI2LR, such as two’s complement, binary offset, or separate increment/decrement messages?

If Generic MIDI cannot do this directly, can it be implemented with a Scripted Dial using JavaScript, for example by sending one MIDI message for clockwise rotation and another for counterclockwise rotation?

I would also like to confirm whether the plugin sends any periodic MIDI feedback, heartbeat, or other messages to the virtual MIDI port while the dial is idle. I found an older MIDI2LR report where unexpected messages were being received repeatedly through a virtual MIDI port, so I would like to avoid that issue.

My environment is:

  • macOS
  • Stream Deck +
  • IAC Driver
  • MIDI2LR
  • Japanese-language version of Lightroom Classic

The Lightroom language should not matter if MIDI2LR performs the Lightroom integration, but confirmation from anyone using a similar setup would be greatly appreciated.
