Needing Expression Map explanation (Cubase)

Hi ! First of all thanks for the wonderful and so helpful plugins ! And also for all the explanatory videos about them, it’s really great !

I am a Cubase user and had a problem for a long time. I was hoping the Stream Deck and your plugins might help me..

I am not a great keyboard player, and most of the times, I’m writing my MIDI with the mouse instead of playing it, because I’m way faster like this. The issue is I don’t know how to deal with articulations and expression maps while working this way.

I created expression map for all Cinematic Studio vst, i can select my articulations, but as soon as I write a MIDI note, it goes back to legato because it’s the first one by default. If I want to write some staccatos for instance, I have to write them without sometimes even hearing them (because the modwheel might be down or something, in any case I will hear legato), and then I have to select all the note, and manually make them staccato. Which mean that the expression map has absolutely no purpose… I believe I’m doing something wrong but I really don’t know why.. So if I can have any help it would be so great.

Thanks again ! Sorry for my english or if I didn’t make myself clear.

Also I forgot to mention but I managed to select articulations with your MIDI plugin for the Stream Deck, but the issue remains the same.. As soon as I write a note, it goes back to legato

This question is not about Stream Deck or plugins; it’s about Cubase expression maps. I think you’re much more likely to get a good answer on a Steinberg forum.

Yes you’re right !
Also I had another issue with your software. I figured that after setting up the MIDI ports and everything, some MIDI notes are triggered by just hitting the “Play” space bar, or some other key commands like setting loop “/”
Is it normal ?

Having problems with key commands after setting up MIDI ports is not normal, no.

If you provide more details than “after setting up the MIDI ports and everything,” I may be able to help you. You have obviously created MIDI ports, and “everything” suggests you have used them for something. MIDI ports used for remote control must be excluded from the “All MIDI Inputs” group in Cubase; it seems you have not done that. However, I cannot say why this would affect key commands unless you describe what “everything” is.
