Is it possible to use the VU Meter with MainStage and/or Logic Pro?
The VU meter can use any MIDI command as a base for the meter, so the question is whether MainStage or Logic can send the VU level somehow. I don’t have any of those programs, so I have no experience with them.
A search on ChatGPT and Gemini didn’t yield a definitive answer; they recommended using the Mackie Control to send the VU level, which doesn’t work with the plugin. In the Mackie Control protocol, the VU level is encoded in the commands along with the track number, so you need a script to decode the values. The scripted dial doesn’t have the VU feature implemented. You end up with only 12 steps of VU level, which would cause a very jerky motion of the VU meter, so even if it were possible, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Maybe other users with more experience with these apps can provide more information.
